Search and validation of prognostic biomarkers for melanoma

Cutaneous melanoma accounts for the majority of skin cancer-related deaths due to its extremely metastatic capacity and its marked resistance to chemotherapy.

In this project we propose to search for new biomarkers by comparing patients with locally advanced melanoma that survived for more than 5 years after diagnosis with those who did not survive that long.
By analyzing sentinel lymph nodes/lymph metastases transcriptomics we will look for gene expression signatures associated with patient survival and for groups of genes associated with clinical responses .
We will explore whether the identified genes modulate melanoma progression using cellular and mouse models of metastatic melanoma.
