The headquarters of the Basque Foundation for Innovation and Sanitary Research (BIOEF), located in the Torre del BEC de Barakaldo, hosted on Tuesday, October 17th, the professional meeting “Refbio ll Technological Transfer Workshop“.
The event, which brought together 134 professionals and 19 companies in the biomedical sector, was organized by the Department of Health of the Basque Government and BIOEF, with the collaboration of the Institutes of Sanitary research Biocruces and Biodonostia, the University of Toulouse III-Paul Sabatier and Navarrabiomed as a coordinator.
The meeting was part of the technical workshops that regularly celebrates the cross-border biomedical research network of the Pyrenees Refbio II (2016-2018) and serve as a forum for meeting representatives of public health systems, universities, Technological and Research centres, and companies of the regions to which the members of the network belong (Aragon, Basque Autonomous community, La Rioja, Navarra, Aquitaine and Midi-Pyrénées).
5 sessions and 35 B2B meetings
The areas that were addressed during the day were intellectual property and the opportunities for cooperation in the field of health technology transfer between the research centres and companies of the trans-border territory of the Pyrenees area. In this regard, a plenary session was organized by Aleksandra Suwala on the IPR Helpdesk Project.
The meeting also hosted four thematic sessions trying to strengthen public-private relations. They exhibited results of R&D&I susceptible of technological transfer, as well as cases success of public-private collaboration in the areas: ICTs in Health, drugs and clinical trials, therapeutic evaluation in chronic diseases and normal and pathological aging. Subsequently, attendees participated in B2B meetings to establish strategic synergies.
About Refbio II project
Refbio II (2016-2018) emerged as a continuation of Project Refbio I (2012-2015), which allowed the creation of a cross-border network involving nine entities from six regions located on both sides of the Pyrenees and whose objective is to promote the Cooperation in health sciences on both sides of the Pyrenees as well as a biomedical research in areas pertinent to health.
The second phase of this project is co-financed by 65% by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) within the framework of the Interreg V-A Spain-France-Andorra Program (POCTEFA 2014-2020). The objective of the POCTEFA is to strengthen the economic and social integration of the Spain-France-Andorra border area. Its assistance focuses on the development of cross-border economic, social and environmental activities through joint strategies for sustainable territorial development.
The project is developed through three major blocks: promotion of public-private collaboration, development of collaborative projects and finally, facilitate the transfer and exploitation of results of biomedical R&D in the Pyrenees area.
