The trans-border biomedical research network of the Pyrenees, Refbio II, will finance seven projects for a total amount of € 400,000
The initiatives will last for 18 months and in all of them both Spanish and French researchers will cooperate.
Refbio II, being the second phase of a successful trans-border network of biomedical research of the Pyrenees, will promote the development of 7 new research projects with the participation of 6 Spanish institutions and 3 French institutions. After an initial external evaluation phase in which 15 proposals were evaluated, the Steering Committee held a meeting to jointly approve the final proposals to be financed (26 April, San Sebastián).
The selected projects have a duration of 18 months and fall within the priority areas of the network: chronic diseases, active aging, medicines and clinical trials and ICT; and are offered funding of more than € 400,000 for personnel and fungible expenses.
Leading entities selected theme areas
The partners that will act as leaders are the University Toulouse III Paul Sabatier (UPS), the Institute of Health Research of Aragon (IACS), the Hospital and University Center of Toulouse (CHUT), the Biomedical Research Center of La Rioja (CIBIR) And Navarrabiomed – Miguel Servet Foundation. The topics they will address in their projects include fields as diverse as regenerative medicine, malnutrition in patients affected by cirrhosis, epigenomics, neurodegenerative diseases, assessment of new treatments for diabetes, search for biomarkers in melanoma and colorectal cancer.
Each initiative will involve a minimum of 2 partners and a maximum of 5, always guaranteeing work groups on both sides of the Pyrenean slope. In total, around 25 research groups belonging to biomedical research centers, hospital institutions, universities or companies will cooperate.
